NOTE: In order to support wide participation from all of our members and attenders -  there will be:
 
One Zoom link (the AQM /Quarterly link) will be used for the entire schedule from 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM.
(This will replace the usual link used for Gwynedd's Meeting for Worship (MfW) - for this special day only.)

Childcare (4 and under) and Youth Quaker Education program will be available to all families from 8:30 AM- 12:30 PM.

Details on Childcare (4 and under) and Youth Quaker Education program

Gwynedd Friends welcomes all visiting families to take part in their childcare and youth program available from 8:30 AM -12:30 PM.
(It is helpful to know if visiting families are going to use childcare and school age program, but not required. See below for details and contacts. )

"For our school aged children, we will have an all-age group program focused on the theme of Environmental Stewardship and finding Spirit as we connect with nature.  We will get to know each other, sing songs, read and share about the story "Acorn Was a Little Wild," explore our connection in nature(as weather permits) and co-create ephemeral art.  Please dress appropriately for outdoor activities."

  1. Available from 8:30 AM- 12:30 PM.
  2. Greeters and friends in the Community Room will help you with drop off and pick up information.
  3. Youth program on Environmental Stewardship will emphasize community as all school ages interact with each other!
  4. You can RSVP or direct questions to: Office@AbingtonQuarterlyMeeting.org. We will make sure these make it to the correct folks to help you.

Dr. Ayesha Imani (and perhaps Phil Lord) will share on the work and worship of Ujima Friends Peace Center and Ujima Friends Meeting, and where they are now in their current evolution, and how Friends and Quaker meetings can and do support their ministries.

PROGRAM INFORMATION

Ayesha Imani, Ph.D.
, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Sankofa Freedom Academy Charter School. Sankofa is a college preparatory K-12 freedom school that builds on the Philadelphia Freedom Schools model to increase literacy and numeracy levels throughout the community through the use of Quaker values and African Centered methodologies. She is also one of the founders of the Ujima Friends Peace Center, Ujima Friends Meeting and the Fellowship of Friends of African Descent.

Ujima Friends Peace Center 
"The Ujima Friends Peace Center is an African centered worshipping Quaker community in North Philadelphia. The work of the Ujima Friends Peace Center is to reduce violence and provide a safe haven with educational, cultural and recreational opportunities for adults and young people. "

Ujima Friends Meeting
"Ujima Friends Meeting (also known as Ujima Friends Monthly Meeting) is an online Quaker community of faith without borders. It is a worshipping community of people of African descent. "

UFPC Programs include
  • The Food Give-Away  (groceries for North Philly families since 2017)
  • PASHI:  Pan African Sisterhood Health Initiative empowers girls in over 11 African countries to attend school during their period, and teaches sewing in the community. Article: https://www.pym.org/ujima-friends-support-project/
  • Ujima Friends Peace Center’s Freedom School Summer program celebrated its 6th year in summer 2023 of 6-week camp. Some of its partners include Historic Fair Hill Burial Ground, George School, Solebury MM, Salem Meeting, Abington Friends Meeting and Taylor Wildlife Preserve.  These partnerships can help students to experience being outdoors and in friendly spaces - which are vital components of the summer program.

Inter-visitation is one of the oldest and most rewarding practices of the Religious Society of Friends. It allows for deeper understanding and cooperation between Quakers.
